About

This site was founded in the summer of 2001, as an experiment in that new-fangled “blogging” thing. Back then, Blogger was owned by Pyra, Windows XP was the hot new thing, the iPod was months away, and America was concerned about Gary Condit and shark attacks.

Then the world changed.

Since then, this site has gone through many changes, but the core mission has always been the same: explore the issues that matter. Our world is a fascinating and often intimidating place, but the best way to live in it is to know as much about it as we can. That’s why this site discusses everything from the global war against terrorism to what’s on the television. As Socrates said, “an unexplored life is not worth living.”

Then again, they made Socrates drink hemlock…

I no longer have comments on this site. For one, I don’t have the time to foster a collegial environment. I also want to keep the editorial voice of this site intact. I do welcome responses to articles in the form of pings from other sites. If you want to respond to an article, feel free to do so that way.

I may be contacted by email at comments – at – jayreding.com.
