Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) is taking fire from left-wing bloggers for daring to run against former impeached judge Alcee Hastings for head of the House Intelligence Committee.
So, we have a group of left-wing bloggers, including notorious partisan hack Glenn Greenwald (whose contradictory logic gets nailed by Maguire at the bottom of the post) attacking another Democrat for running against someone who has been convicted of bribery and removed from office. Not only that, but the Democrats have the sheer audacity to put that individual in a position where he would be able to access some of this nation’s most sensitive secrets.
As tempting as it would be to watch the Democratic Party tear itself apart, the fact that someone with the record of Hastings might be the head of a crucial House committee during a time of war is not just disturbing, but downright frightening.

Give me a break. Just three weeks ago, you were cheering on the re-election of Conrad Burns, guilty of the same thing Hastings is guilty of (that’d be bribery for those keeping score at home). I would advise you not to throw rocks in your glass house, but it would actually be kind of amusing watching you pull those jagged shards of glass out of your neck.
Which would be fine except for: A) Burns has never been charged with anything, no less convicted and B) Burns never sat on the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Now, look here, Jay, you silly goose. Miss America, a.k.a. The Warrior Princess, Nancy Pelosi, threw down for Jack “unindicted co-conspirator” Murtha, and is now supporting the impeached-and-convicted former federal judge, Alcee Hastings, for chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. So what if he took a $150,000 bribe? That’s all in the past. He said he was sorry! So there. This is America, man!! Nicole’s killers are still at large. Worry about THAT, dude.
Meanwhile, just look at all the terrific developments in the people’s new Democratic Congress. Charlie Rangel’s bringing back the draft and preparing legislation to raise taxes on the middle-class! There’s even legislation pending to increase the minimum wage to benefit all the labor unions!! — and all to advance the tireless struggle of liberal Democrats to do everything possible to wipe out American small business and expand the socialist welfare state — so we can finally enjoy multicultural diversity and complete financial dependence just like France and Germany!! Nevermind Harry Reid’s making millions in taxpayer supported real estate speculation, or John Edwards’ shopping at the Evil Empire of Wal-Mart. All that’s just the result of overzealous understaffers. That’s none of our concern. The real truth is it’s all business as usual again, and what a relief!
So, there’s nothing to be frightened of. It’s time to move on. Just remember, the Democrats really care about the little guy. That it happens to be Kim Jong Il and Moumoud Ahmadinejad shouldn’t worry you in the least. We are talking about world peace here. And as soon as the United States is defeated and hopefully forced to unilaterally surrender and withdrawal from Iraq, we can thereafter wipe Israel off the map, join Russia and China in the new communist revolution, and finally, finally have peace in the Middle East. You do want peace, don’t you?? And believe me — Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Alcee Hastings are just the people we need to make it happen!!
