What you refer to as "paleo-populism" is a belatedly enlightened turn away from the great failed experiment known as free trade and from our national return to the ways of the robber-baron era.

America's middle class and working class people have worshiped at the altar of the free market faith, have filled the plate many times over and have given at the office as well — big time. Thirty years of seeing the pie get bigger while their share stays the same or shrinks, except for a brief breather during the Clinton years, has caused most Americans to rethink the realities of their situation and political choices.

Or, as one right-wing Republican was overheard saying to another recently, "The flim-flam's not working; now what do we do?"

"Economic populism is stuck in the past."

It's become abundantly clear that American voters disagree. To some extent, they've always disagrees, it's just that the Republican Party has conned them into voting "values" rather than pocketbook in recent election cycles. The tide is changing, and the more people like you tell the public that they're clueless chuckleheads for doubting the infallibility of the lawless free market, the further marginalized your antiquated worldview will become.
