Nearly five years into this debacle, most people aren’t gonna settle for anything less than withdrawal as grounds for celebrating, and we all realize that withdrawal is never gonna happen. The surge has been a military success….and Petraeus and Gates deserve kudos for their efforts on that front….but there’s a limited window of time to negotiate a political settlement before the surge cannot be sustained. Unless that’s taken advantage of, the success of the surge will be for naught. Again, you guys are a victim of the ghosts of artificially optimistic forecasts past.

Oh and Jay, could you provide some quotes to back up your multiple claims last week that Kos’ rhetoric is as inflammatory as Ann Coulter’s (excluding the same “screw the mercenaries” gray mare you’ve trotted out of the stable for nearly four years now)? You seem to have a devil of a time backing up your allegations with actual evidence.

How sad is it that one of the worst things that could happen to the Democratic party would be a clear victory in Iraq?
