Democrats Against Democracy

A New Mexico judge who ruled that Ralph Nader could not appear on the New Mexico ballot has now been found to be a donor to the Kerry campaign.

Such efforts to control the choices presented to voters, including the use of union thugs to intimidate Nader petition drives, shows how the Democratic Party stands in opposition to actual democracy. It appears that the sprit of Democrats stealing elections – a tradition as old as the Republic itself from the Tamminy Hall machine of New York to disenfranchising servicemen and women overseas in 2000 – continues unabated today.

  1. You have got to be kidding. The same guy who repeatedly praised Zell Miller’s declaration of war against democracy at the GOP conventon earlier this month has the nerve to say the donks are against democratic government?

  2. “Zell Miller’s declaration of war against democracy”? Huh? What does that MEAN? Miller talked about terrorism and national security and Kerry’s 20 year Senate record of votes against intelligence and military speaking.

  3. James, Miller said “nothing makes this ex-Marine madder” than a Democratic Party seeking to take down the President this election season. Can you imagine! The Democratic Party has the audacity to run a candidate against George Bush in an election year! Bastards!

  4. Where’s your criticism of Republicans donating money to the Nader campaign in a blatent, explicit attempt to pull a few voters away from Kerry?

  5. What Zell actually said:
“And nothing makes this Marine madder than someone calling American troops occupiers rather than liberators.” and “Now , while young Americans are dying in the sands of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan, our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrat’s manic obsession to bring down our Commander-in-Chief.”

I don’t think it fair to say Zell was saying we should not have free elections, hius criticism was directed at the Hate Bush crowd that has gone over the top in their criticism and undermining of his authority during war time. That’s different than campaigning against the President.

And I think that the GOP contributions and help to Nader is misguided and probably cheapens the political process.

  6. James, is Kerry’s “manic obsession with taking down our Commander in Chief” really any more or less intense than the political challenge waged against incumbents in previous campaigns? If anything, Kerry has treated Bush with kid gloves, holding a convention where virtually nothing was said about Bush’s incorrigible job performance and thus allowing the GOP an opening to roll out its character assassins and turn this election into a referendum against the challenger rather than the incumbent. This administration has led the nation into a war which anywhere between 45% and 55% of Americans, depending on the poll, believe was a mistake. With this in mind, it’s been extraordinarily to see how mellow John Kerry’s challenge has been. For Miller to suggest that Kerry’s mild-mannered rebuke of the Bush administration constitutes a “manic obsession” tells me that Miller believes democratic elections are an antiquated concept that outlived their usefulness the day two planes flew into the World Trade Center.

  7. I suppose it all depends on your point of view. Here is mine. I can’t remember ever seeing any president set upon in the way that George Bush has been for the last couple of years. I believe that this is because democrats can see the very real possibility of the death of their party. Anyway you can’t tell me that the rage exhibited by the news media, Hollywood etc., isn’t unprecedented.

  8. Greg, donating money is one thing. Misusing your appointed office, while failing to disclose your conflict of interest–this is quite another thing. This is a violation of public trust.

  9. I voted Democrat my whole life, and I no longer recognize my erstwhile party. I know exactly where Zell is coming from.
