Kennedy Gets His Fisking

I was going to give a thorough Fisking to Ted Kennedy’s ridiculous little rant in The Washington Post, but thankfully The Captain has already done so, and done so well.

It’s clear that Kennedy, who said in October of 2002 that "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction" has had a predictable election-year change of heart, like so many other Democrats. If Bush was being dishonest about the war, so too was Kennedy, Clinton, and the other members of the Democratic Party who made the very arguments that Bush Administration did. Considering that Kennedy voted for a resolution stating that Saddam Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction, he should be reminded of a certain phrase about people living in glass houses.

  1. I just don’t understand why this is a big deal. If the war in Iraq was wrong, as so many Americans seem to think, then I’d much rather vote for somebody who’s come around to that way of thinking than for the candidate who steadfastly refuses to think at all.

  2. The issues is that Kennedy is the one who is lying. He is accusing the President of manufacturing the reasons for this war, when he knows very well that the same statements about Hussein and WMDs were made by Clinton, himself, and nearly every credible source.

In other words, if Bush "lied" about the war, by extension Clinton and Kennedy did as well since they used the same justifications to authorize force against Iraq in 1998.
