Debka and others are reporting that several oil wells near Basra in southern Iraq have been set on fire by Iraqi troops.
US and coalition artillery is hitting Iraqi targets in preparation for the full push, which should be ongoing in the next few minutes if it hasn’t occurred already.
UPDATE: 10:48CST The Pentagon now confirms the oil fires, along with reporters in the field.
