The elections in Iraq have gone exceptionally well, with high turnout, and only scattered violence. 60% of eligible Iraqi voters, 8 million Iraqis came out to vote.
A higher percentage of eligible Iraqis came out to vote in the Iraqi elections than did eligible Americans in our elections – and we didn’t have to face the threat of terrorism to do it.
44 Iraqis lost their lives in terrorist attacks during the elections.
This is a victory for Iraq. This is a victory for democracy — and this is the single greatest act of defiance against the terrorists who would cast Iraq back into autocracy and tyranny.
A’ash al-Iraq!
