A Voice of Reason

Dr. Muqtedar Khan of the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy give an absolutely brilliant memo to American Muslim leaders to reject the false rhetoric of terrorists such as Osama bin Laden. I must commend him for taking such a brave stand, and I certainly wish that there were more Muslims like him willing to speak out. With a recent Newsweek survey of Pakistanis finding that 48 percent of them believed that it was Israel that really attack the World Trade Center, every voice of reason counts. The fact that so many Muslims actually believe the lies put out by the tyrannical few is frightening. While the anti-American fifth column of Barbara Kingsolvers and Noam Chomsky deride the U.S. for its support of Israel, Muslim governments systematically oppress their people and restrict basic human rights. This wave of Islamic fundamentalism threatens the lives of millions, and American Muslims should be calling for its end. Yet too few of them do, which is why Dr. Khan’s words should be taken to heart by American Muslims.
