Mea culpa

National Review‘s Rich Lowry admits that conservatives got nation-building all wrong. While the situations in Somalia and Bosnia were somewhat problematic, the idea of nation-building is much better than many conservatives had painted it. Certainly nation-building is the only way that the US can prevent Afghanistan from returning to state of anarchy, and what we’ll need to do in Afghanistan will make Bosnia, Haiti, and Somalia all look like cakewalks. Still, Lowry makes some excellent point on why this is exactly the kind of mission the US needs to undertake.
