In Defense of the Northern Alliance

Anne Applebaum has an interesting article in Salon on why we should trust the Northern Alliance in our war against the Taliban. Basically, she argues that the Northern Alliance has gotten a bum rap, especially since the Pakistani intelligence service, the ISI, isn’t very accepting of the Northern Alliance. If what Applebaum is saying is true, then it’s time we gave the Northern Alliance our complete support. The attacks on the Taliban front lines are a good start, and if the Northern Alliance can bring even a benevolent authoritarian form of government to Afghanistan, it would be far preferable to the iron fist of the Taliban.
