Three Months Ago…
It’s now the three month anniversary of the September 11th attacks. It’s almost hard to believe in a lot of ways. Three months ago I was sitting here at work, frantically reloading CNN and watching the destruction like just about everyone else with access to a TV or the Internet that day. It’s one of those things where we’ll always remember where we were when we first heard the news. A watershed event in our history.
It’s only been three months, yet we’ve managed to oust the evil Taliban regime, destabilize al-Qaeda, and possible corner Osama bin Laden near Spin Ghar in Afghanistan. In only three months the United States has mobilized a massive amount of military force on the other side of the globe, unleashed it, and obliterated an evil regime. Today, the nation of Afghanistan has a hope that they’ve not had in decades. It was only because we took a stand against evil that such things happened.
Back at home, work continues on removing the wreckage of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The steps taken by Attorney General Ashcroft have been controversial, but they may have prevented further attacks by al-Qaeda sleeper agents in the US. While the nations mourns, we’re also more united and resolute now. The conflicts of the past pale in comparison to our unity and our strength. Those who would seek to harm us should take a good hard look at the littered remains of the Taliban strewn across the fields of Afghanistan… we’re not a nation to be trifled with any longer.
