The BBC is reporting that the British National Health Service is seeing an alarming rate of premature dismissals from hospitals in order to free up more beds for other patients. This is an example of why socialized or excessively bureaucratic medical systems invariably fail. Free market systems wouldn’t have these problems as there would be no regulations prohibiting hospitals from building more beds. However, in a system like Englands, the approval process for creating new hospital beds is so costly and inefficient that it’s not worth the time to bother – therefore statistics like the one in this article are the inevitable outcome.
