Foreign Policy has a good piece on why NGOs aren’t
as altruistic as they’d like you to think. One of the smartest things that was
done in the Afghanistan campaign was banning NGOs from the area – they often
team up with local warlords for protection, weakening government organizations
and inciting more chaos than they prevent. While MSF and Amnesty complain about
US military actions, it is the US military that is responsible for avoiding a major
human rights disaster in Afghanistan.
