PBS has been running a great show on the history of the global economy called Commanding Heights. It’s amazing to see a show on PBS that actually praises the free market and – gasp! – admits that socialism doesn’t work! The show delves heavily into such greats as Frederich Hayek and Milton Friedman and how their economic theories have shaped the modern world economy. It’s a very well done and well-balanced show, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to understand the modern economy and some of the history behind it. Considering how poor basic economic education is in this country, seeing something like this (on public television no less!) is quite a breath of fresh air.
