The New York Times has a chilling and heart-breaking
recounding of the last moments of those trapped in the WTC on September 11. Many of them had enough time to call their loved ones and say goodbye before the towers fell, send e-mails through wireless Blackberry devices, or try to find any way out. Their stories are inspiring, frightening, and in many cases, noble. Additionally, there’s an excellent Flash feature that shows helps illustrate the layout of the WTC towers and sheds light on how those who survived made it out.
It also strike me how technology allows us to know more about things like this. The fact that the people trapped above the burning floors could call and e-mail to those outside is amazing. It gives us a picture of people who never stopped trying to help each other even in the face of death and despair.
