Yet Another Unholy Alliance

The Business Software Alliance has now
joined with Egyptian Islamic authorities to create a fatwa against software piracy
. So blowing random civilians up is okay, but how dare you copy that Johnny Cash CD! While I’m all for protecting the rights of creators, the BSA really needs to work on their PR skills with that one. Then again, I’m also for religion, but many Islamic clerics also take things to a far extreme. Perhaps the mutual fanaticism above common sense exhibited by the two partners make it a better match than I think. Yet their may yet be trouble for a parnership between Arab artists and American record companies:

Some Egyptian singers may be a tough sell in the United States. When he’s not singing against piracy, el-Reheem belts out "I Hate Israel."

I guess that means a duet with Barbara Streisand is out of the picture for that guy…
