So, Spain is pulling their troops out of Iraq as soon as possible – now proving that surrender isn’t a solely French quality.
If the Spanish think this will protect them from terrorism, they’re dead wrong. Bin Laden’s problem with Spain goes all the way back to the Reconquista, and now that bin Laden knows beyond any doubt that he can use terrorism to manipulate Spanish policy the number of attacks will only increase.
UPDATE: Allahu akbar!
Spanish history with the moors: 700 years plus.
Yours: much less.
Spanish drove muslims out of homeland: Yes.
You: No, but were rude to a cab driver once.
Spanish method for dealing with muslims: Inquisition
You: a blog.
Yeahbut-
There was no collective Spanish identity at the time of the Moorish invasion. Praising the inquisition as an effective way to deal with other religious groups doesn’t render you very intelligent. Neither does your blatant misuse of history to make a non-point.
Hey Chris,
get your head out of your ass, and see what army is deployed in Ivory Coast, Haiti and Afghanistan to name a few.
and when you’re done checking your ignorance, continue in checking out our military forces. We also have the more advanced weapons, which was acknowledged by your official at NATO last month. Maybe in your world you’re the best and everyone else sucks, but that’s only in your dreams.
Man,
you first acknowledged that:”Yes, France, your country I presume, has troops in those countries”(Ivory Coast, Haiti and Afghanistan)
and then you say that:
“the French military has done nothing to confront the tyrants that pose(d) serious threats”
Who do you think the french military fought in Afghanistan and Haiti? The teletubbies?
Then, you obviously lie:”I never said that there was no French army”
But just scroll-up to your own post:”The scheming and military weakness of France”
So I’m not “getting personal” as I don’t give a damn who you are, but I will definitely correct assumptions that are blatant disinformation (you can hide behind ignorance if you don’t like to be called a liar).
France is one of the most active nation in terms of military support for prevention and peace supporting operations. I cannot believe that all we did over the last 50 years has been erased because we didn’t support an unfair, illegitimate and illegal war! For provoking this animosity between France and the US, I must say, I really hate this “Dumbya”.
Fun fact -just to calm a little-; yesterday, there was “independance day” on TV (not for the first time of course), and at some point, Frenchmen were showned. This movie is supposedly happening in the late 90’s or something, but all frenchmen are wearing “béret” (you know, the hat my grandfather used to wear), and are driving 2CV (this car is not produced anymore since the mid 70’s, and I bet there’s no more than 500 units in the whole country)…What do (most) americans know about France? Not much obviously.(and for those that believe we have no army, I’d like to stress that we have the fastest train on earth, the more secured nuclear plants, one of the best communication network (phone in the US…), and plenty of others modern records). So long for the “clichés”
France liberated Chad in 79 and deposed the evil Jean Bodel Bokassa from the Central African Republic in 75. France intervened to stop ethnic war in Djibouti in the early 90’s and stood up to protect Mayotte’s place as an overseas territory when the Mahorais were being bullied by the Islamists from Comoros. France has been combatting terrorists in its portion of the Basque Country and Corsica for decades. It had to deal with Armenian extremists planting bombs at Turkish Targets in France (including the atrocity at the Turkish Airlines Desk at Orly Airport). France faced Algerian terrorism in the mid 90’s. The French militarily manhandled the FLN rebels in Algeria in the late 50’s and had to deal with the right wing pied-noir community and OAS bombing campaign that almost brought the nation to civil war. The French were with the US in the first Iraq War, in Afghanstan, they had a presence in Korea as well. Their presence in Kosovo has increased as well. And as Vincent said France was quick to respond to the vaccums of power in the Cote D’Ivoire and Haiti. The French brokered the deal in Cote D’Ivoire because no one else wanted to. Yes the French look mainly to their former sphere of influence, but no they are not uninvolved. To claim France is militarily weak is a joke. To claim they are irrelevant or uninvolved is just a representation of a shallow and pathetic knowledge of French political history for the past 50 years.
