Forbes has an intriguing piece about a collaboration between Apple and Motorola to develop an iTunes-integrated cell phone — and it looks like we could see this iPhone (?) at MacWorld San Francisco this January.
Now, I’m not a big cell phone fan. The phone I have (which replaced the wonderful VX3100 I lost in DC last year) was made in 2001 and is used strictly for making calls and occasionally as an alarm clock. I find cutesy ringtones irritating — almost as annoying as the people who have their cell phones surgically attached to the side of their face. I have no desire to hear about your cousin’s hairdressers boyfriend’s vasectomy scars, especially not when you’re having a conversation over the ether in public.
An Apple-branded cellphone seems like a logical extension of the iPod lines — iPods and fancy cellphones reach the same demographic, so it’s a natural fit to combine the two, especially if they work together in some way. Add Bluetooth synchronization, wireless email, and the Apple interface, this could be a winning product.
