Glenn Reynolds finds another columnist who’s trying to peddle the line that Bush never talked about democracy until after the war in Iraq. The whole argument that democratization was some ex post facto argument pulled out of thin air is a completely idiotic argument. Bush talked about democratization and Iraq at the UN on September 11, 2002, in the 2003 State of the Union address, in the February 25, 2003 address to the American Enterprise Institute, etc. If it were some obtuse mention in some obscure policy speech, the argument might be explainable, but when the President put in forward numerous times before the war, making such an argument can’t be done except through ignorance or malice. (Or malicious ignorance as the case may be.)
