Don’t Mess With South Park

Captain Ed notes that the creators of South Park are about to poke fun at the Isaac Hayes/Scientology brouhaha created by the hilarious South Park episode poking fun at the “religion” of Scientology. Isaac Hayes, who played the character of Chef, left the series (or was forced out) over the episode called “Trapped in the Closet”.

Now, it appears that Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park may be getting the last laugh:

The tenth season of “South Park” will launch on Wednesday with a new episode titled “The Return of Chef!”, marking the “triumphant homecoming” of lusty school cafeteria cook James “Chef” McElroy to the show, the network said in a statement.…

[A] network synopsis said the fictional town of South Park, Colorado, is “jolted out of a case of the doldrums when Chef suddenly reappears,” leading to new antics by the group of foul-mouthed fourth graders who are the show’s stars.

“While Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman are thrilled to have their old friend back, they notice that something about Chef seems different. When Chef’s strange behavior starts getting him in trouble, the boys pull out all the stops to save him.”

South Park has been able to be merciless in lampooning current events – parodying the capture of Saddam Hussein just days afterwards, and it looks like Parker and Stone have been able to pull it off again. South Park has never been a show that pulls its punches, so I’ll be quite curious to see what they come up with tomorrow…
