The New Conservatism

Michael Barone has a good article in US News & World Report on how President Bush is pushing a "leave-us-alone" agenda at home while pushing a "national greatness" agenda abroad, thus preventing a major rift in American politics. Barone has a good point here, as Bush really seems to be pushing a new kind of conservative agenda. Less intervention at home, and more intervention abroad seems to be the new paradigm in Washington. It’s entirely fitting with the idea that what government does best is protect its citizens from military attack while letting them chart their own course at home. As InstaPundit’s Glenn Reynolds says "it would be great if the public school system educated our children half as well as the Pentagon trains our soldiers."
