Fareed Zakaria has a great article in which he says that the principle of nuclear deterrence will keep India and Pakistan from war. He’s probably right on that account. Knowing that going to war over Kashmir is going to lead to a nuclear exchange is enough to dissuade anyone sane from launching an assault. The real question is what happens if someone who has command of a nuclear weapon isn’t sane… that will be the real test.
