The US Army is expected to roll out a beta version of their video game "America’s Army" on the Fourth of July. The game, a first person shooter in the vein of Quake or Half-Life is expected to feature the kind of realism that one would expect for a game developed by the Army. The total cost to taxpayers: $6.3 million.
That sounds like a lot, and it is, but perhaps it will be a better recruiting tool than the less than effective "Army of One" ads that probably cost significantly more than the game.
Now, if they have a game mod that lets me hunt down and kill Osama bin Laden with realistic weapons, I’ll consider it tax dollars well spent…
