For Those Who (Need To) Think Young

The British Conservative Party is starting a program to give a "welcome package" to 18-year-olds in the hopes of appealing to the next generation of British voters.

The Conservative Party is in deep trouble, as the article indicates that there are only 10,000 Tories under 30. (Although that seems somewhat dubious to me…) It’s clear that the Tories have little to lose by doing whatever they can to appeal to younger voters.

Fortunately, the Republican Party is much better off in the United States, despite the liberal hegemony in academia. Groups like College Republicans are active on many campuses, along with groups like Young Americans for Freedom. However, the lesson for parties on all sides of the ideological spectrum is clear: ignore the youth voting bloc at your own peril.
