For some odd reason, I failed to notice that political philsopher John Rawls had passed away this Sunday. Rawls is famous for his work A Theory of Justice that helped provide a philosophical basis for modern liberalism. Richard Epstein has a good memorial in NRO with more background on Rawls.
Like Paul Wellstone, Rawls may have been an unabashed liberal, but he was also an interesting philosopher whose ideas do add much to political philosophy. It’s sad to see so little recognition of the man and his works on his passing.
