Tacitus has a good response to all those who equate conservatism with repressed racism. Despite Trent Lott’s idiotic statement (which is rapidly making him the conservative movement’s newest whipping boy), the GOP and the conservative movement has long since embraced the idea that minorities are valuable and important part of American society. The fact is, we’d all be worse off it weren’t for Condoleezza Rice or Shannon Reeves or J.C. Watts.
The liberals who want to bash Trent Lott or the CCC can feel free – they deserve it. However, I’d appreciate it if they would refrain from lumping the entire conservative movement in with them. After all, those who live in glass houses with Robert Byrd would be wise to avoid throwing stones.
Proclaiming affection for Condoleezza Rice appears much more sincere when you spell her name correctly.
