NPR is now reporting that there have been rumors of uprisings against Saddam in the southern city of Karbala and also near Basra. This jibes with what Debka had been saying last night – that 2/3rds of the Iraqi forces in the area had agreed to surrender to US forces.
It should be taken with a grain of salt, but one can always hope. Those Iraqis who choose to fight will be met with the deadliest force possible.
