The Next Leader Of Iraq?

Jim Henley makes a very pursuasive case that Vaclav Havel should be the leader of post-war Iraq. Havel is one of my favorite political figures, and his leadership of the Czechs from communism to freedom makes him one of the 20th Century’s greatest political figures.

At the same time, his health is supposedly poor, and he is advanced in age. But the idea of taking a reformer from Eastern Europe is a tempting one – they know firsthand about the perils and pitfalls of transitional governments and they have a special understanding of what it is to be free after years of oppression.
