Former Iraqi Deputy PM Tariq Aziz has told American officials that Saddam Hussein is still alive. Aziz reported seeing Hussein alive after the first US bombing, but US officials are now saying reports that Aziz said he say Saddam alive after the April 7th bombing are untrue.
However, it is possible that Aziz is willingly or unwittingly passing along disinformation. Hussein had placed Aziz under surveillance in fear that he might defect before the war – it is quite possible that Aziz was given faulty information to mislead US forces in the event of his capture.
