…when Wal-Mart extends anti-discrimination rules to gay and lesbian employees. Wal-Mart is the nation’s largest private employer.
These actions show that the old attitudes of discrimination against homosexuals are breaking down. The social conservative movement needs to realize that it is no longer acceptable to target homosexuals as being somehow unworthy of the same legal rights as others. Extending legal rights to homosexuals will not undermine the structure of the American family any more than allowing interracial marriages would. Instead, it will allow homosexuals to participate more fully in society rather than being an alienated fringe group. In the end, if even Wal-Mart can accept gay rights, so can the rest of the nation.
Now if we could only get Wal-Mart to pay their employees the overtime that they earn and stop shutting down local businesses through monopolistic practices, they’d be great!
