Iranian Protests Cancelled

Pro-democracy student activists have cancelled plans for a nation-wide protest against the rule of the Islamic government shortly before several student leaders were detained by the government. There were worries that the government would institute a Tiananmen Square-style bloodbath. InstaPundit has a good compendium of links on the Iranian protest situation.

The autocratic rulers of Iran are nervous about ending up like many European tyrants on the ash heap of history. Hopefully the student movement will continue pushing for real democratic reform in Iran.
