The New Look

As I’m a fan of changing things around, the site has a new template with a new color scheme. I’ve been wanting to use a design like this for some time, but I never could find the right font. Luckily, after long and fruitless searches I found the brilliant Voluta Script Pro font which had just the look I wanted. (I was looking for a classic script font with nice long descenders and dramatic flourishes. This font has both in spades.)

All graphics are now in PNG format, which means that very old systems might have trouble displaying graphics. If you’re not seeing the images, you really need to get a better browser. With some very judicious optimizing, I managed to squeak the header into just 32k.

As always, if I’ve broken anything, let me know…

  1. Cool header!

But above the header, I get the following:

    Warning: fopen(“semaphore.ref”, “w”) – Permission denied in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/jayreding.com/httpdocs/lgf-reflog.php on line 35

Warning: flock(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/jayreding.com/httpdocs/lgf-reflog.php on line 36

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/jayreding.com/httpdocs/lgf-reflog.php on line 48

I used to get that, and now it’s back.

  2. Ugh… it’s the Little Green Footballs referrer script… something about it must be incompatible with IE. Looks like I’ll have to disable it again.

  3. Oh yeah, the header for the links column is missing from here. Not sure if it is your site or IE being lame.

  4. Whoops… somehow that image didn’t upload the first time around. It’s up now.

Mark: Oh, so you’re admitting that calling old-fashioned welfare state socialism ‘progressive’ is just a smokescreen for government taking control of the commanding heights of the economy and driving the economy into the ground… good for you. :p

  5. Uh….actually I was just referring to new colors on this board failing to make the content any less noxious, but if telling yourself I said you thought I did helps ease your conscience enough to sleep tonight, go with it.

  6. On a purely asthetic(sp?) note: you should add a gap between the top of the page and the beginning of the document – so to speak. Now that probably sounds very vague, and I had about a paragraph and a half typed out originally to clarify and explain why. Simply put: look at the bottom of the page -> notice the difference -> apply to the top -> profit! No, not really, but it will look better. Your page’s appearance will have increased tenfold. No I’m not insane.
