Mmmmm…. Firefly

DVD Answers has details on the Firefly box set due December 9. Firefly was one of the best-written, best-acted, and best-shot programs on TV, but was killed by poor planning on the part of studio execs. The box set of all 15 seen and unseen episodes will be around $50 bucks retail.

What’s nice is that Fox has gone out of their way to add some very nice extras/commentaries, and despite the press release Fox has confirmed that the show will be in its originally intended 16:9 1.78:1 widescreen ratio.

So if you’ve never seen Firefly do yourself a favor and get this set as a Christmas (or Hannukah, or Ramadan, or whatever) present to yourself. While Fox Broadcast may have killed Firefly, Fox Home Entertainment is at least giving it the treatment it deserves for DVD.

  1. I watched the first half of the first episode of Firefly and couldn’t take any more of it. I’m usually one to apply a “three strikes until you’re out” policy to new shows, but a half an hour was enough of this show to betray my allegiance. More power to you if you were able to stay awake through it…or maybe subsequent episodes improved after the pilot. They couldn’t have gotten much worse.

  2. Most SciFi shows start fairly poorly, take for example STTNG, which took a full season and a half to really get going, or more recently Enterprise, which I had refused to watch after seeing the pilot, but I hear has gotten better. Having only seen once since I cannot comment any more on it, especially considering that the episode featured a hot Vulcan in Pon Farr, which may have been clouding my judgement. 🙂

Then again, Jay also was a big fan Babylon 5, and we all know how much that sucked… 🙂

  3. I wish it would come out in reruns. In this economy who has the money to spend on box-set DVD’s? Oh, right, Republicans.

Oh, well. There’s always Bittorrent, thank god.
