Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi has an important piece in NRO on how the UN High Commission on Human Rights is ignoring the plight of thousands of Iranian dissidents.
The UN has consistantly proven to be either toothless or complicit in some of the biggest human rights violations in recent history. The massacre of thousands of Muslims at Srebrenica, the UN’s Oil-for-Palaces program in Iraq, and the way in which the UN’s "human rights" organization seems to care little for actual human rights all point to an organization that is at best ineffective and at worst part of the problem rather than the solution.
It is clear that counting on the UN to protect human rights, political freedom, and world stability is a foolish notion.
