New Views Of Mars

The Beagle lander may have been a bust, but the European Space Agency’s Mars Express orbiter is sending back incredible views of Martian canyons in the Valles Marineris region. The Mars Express orbiter will also use radar to peer under the Martian surface in search of water as well as other scientific instruments.

This image is an interesting composite of the data from the lander in 3D, showing the intense variation in the terrain. Geologists must be salivating over this one…
