Russian TV is reporting on a suicide bombing attack on a Moscow subway that has killed 22 and injured 30. The attack took place between the Paveletskaya and Avtozazvodskaya stations.
Already there is speculation that the attack could be connected to the long-simmering conflict in Chechnya, in which Islamist insurgents have been trained by al-Qaeda. It could also be an act of domestic terrorism or an attack by members of the Russian mafia on rival gangs. More as the story develops…
UPDATE: The death toll in the attack is now at 39. Terrorism is still suspected, but not yet confirmed.
