The GOP got into a bit of hot water when they released a survey that called the Philippines and Thailand states that harbor terrorists. Surprisingly, the questions came from the Council on Foreign Relations, a prestigious international affairs think tank.
While the Philippines has problems with the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group, they’ve been very open in combatting terrorism including allowing US soldiers to hunt down terrorists in their territory. Thailand has also cooperated with the US in anti-terrorist operations across the world.
Someone should be losing their job over this. It’s one thing to make an unfortunate slip of the tongue – it’s another to let a mistake of this magnitude get past. The head of the RNC, Ed Gilespie, should do the right thing and issue a formal apology to the Thai and Philippino governments and move on.
