Another Iraq/al-Qaeda Link

Captain Ed notes a new development tying a member of the Saddam Fedeyeen with al-Qaeda. On January 5, 2000 a man named Ahmed Hikmat Shakir was identified as being at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur with the plotters of the USS Cole as well as several of the September 11 hijackers (more on this connection here).

Critics of this theory had long argued that there was little evidence that Shakir was really an Iraqi agent. At that time, they were correct.

Except now we have evidence that Shakir was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Iraqi Army and a member of the Saddam Fedeyeen. If this is the same Ahmed Hikmat Shakir (and that seems very likely), it means that an Iraqi agent was present at a meeting with high level al-Qaeda members in which two major terrorist attacks were discussed, one of them being the September 11 attacks.

Of course, don’t expect the mainstream media to bother looking into this or even mentioning it. Afterall, investigative journalism gets in the way of all that pissant politicking…
