The New Tet

It appears that, as expected, the terrorists in Iraq have launched a massive attack to derail Iraqi sovereignty. They know that they cannot defeat the US militarily, so they’re trying to drive a wedge between the American people and the military, just as the North Vietnamese did with Tet. Despite the fact that the Tet Offensive was a major military loss for the North Vietnamese, the media spun the story to make it look like a massive defeat for America and South Vietnam. The media lost the battle that our soldiers had won.

I have the sad feeling that the media will be repeating that shameful action in the next few days – which is why it is more important than ever to hit back, and hard. Already US warplanes are hitting back, taking out insurgents left and right. We need to give these terrorist scum no hiding place – if that means going house-to-house or evacuating the civilians, disarming them, and then levelling Fallujah, then we need to do it. The only option we should even consider is absolute victory against these terrorists – and that means al-Zarqawi’s head needs to be on a platter ASAP.

As von Clausewitz noted: "Given the same amount of intelligence, timidity will do a thousand times more damage than audacity." This attack was the result of our timidity in pulling back from Fallujah. Now is the time for audacity, before the terrorists have a chance to strike again.
