Good For Tony

The Guardian reports that Tony Blair is asking for a plan to send British troops to the Sudan to prevent the genocide currently taking place at Darfur. The Arab janjaweed militias are systematically raping and ethnically cleansing black Africans in the province, and no one is doing anything of substance to stop them. This is exactly the sort of situation that the UN was designed to prevent, but as always the UN is far more interested slamming Israel for protecting itself than protecting the lives of black Africans in the Sudan.

  1. And guess who is leading the way in non-action against sudan?

Not that I disagree, but how exactly does that statement make sense? How do you “lead the way in non-action?” That’s like being the first one to get nowhere.

  2. No, you can lobby to prevent resolution to be passed at the UN.

France is actually leading the way against this resolution because it doesn’t accuse the right presons (blame the milicias, not the government).

The government HAS armed milicias, but this was in a very different context of all-against-all tribal wars. Today, all arabs tribes have unified against black tribes, resulting in the massacre.

A resolution accusing the sudanese government will only weaken it, while reinforcing the power of local kingpins.

I know it’s on Blair and Bush minds to prove that they are always willing to help and protect suffering people, but some lecture of the situation would have been better first. Moreover, there is actually no british troop available…so long for the cheap humanity and compassion of Blair.

  3. My humor is totally unappreciated.

Thanks Jay Reding, that is what I was inferring to. France will make a consiance effort to avoid a UN action in sudan because they have to many interests there.

  5. Jay, I know that you are a well of knowledge, but maybe you should look at some Al-Qaeda connection to sudanese stakeholders before deciding who you are going to support in Sudan…
