Russian government officials have said they have found no signs of terrorism in the recent double plane crash.
Considering that two aircraft took off from the same airport and crashed within minutes of each other despite the fact that they were different aircraft under different airlines, the chances of such a multiple-crash event seems astronomically small. If it were a freak weather situation, other planes would have experienced it. If it were bad fuel, other aircraft would have also been involved, and the chances of both crashes occurring simultaneously strains credulity.
Terrorism remains the most likely explanation for these events.
If indeed this does turn out to be terrorism, we will atleast know that the Russian government took a more in-depth look at the situation. As much as I loathe the terrorists in Chechnya, I also feel that there has been a large degree of state terrorism. In an earlier post I was wary of a heavy-handed Kremlin response. It seems that atleast that won’t be the case. I guess we’ll see if Putin’s newest Chechen yes man wins in the next elections and what that brings.
