The Genesis space probe, carrying material ejected from the sun intended to give new insights into the formation of the solar system has crashed into the Utah desert after a parachute failure. The probe was intended to be picked up by a stunt pilot in a helicopter, but since the parachute failed, recovery would not have been possible.
The probe slammed into the desert and appears heavily damaged.
