Habemus Papam

Germany’s Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has been elected the Pontifex Maximus of the Roman Catholic Church, taking the name Benedict XVI. Ratzinger was a close associate of Pope John Paul II.

Pope Benedict XVI is a traditionalist within the church, a man who will maintain the traditionalism of his predecessor while hopefully keeping the Church from waning across the Old World. He faces a loss of cultural identity for the Church against a wave of moral nihilism and religious decline. It will be a tough job, but with the grace of God he will be able to hold fast against the storm and continue the great work of his predecessor.
