Unsurprisingly, the Federal Marriage Amendment has been killed in the Senate. I don’t think it had much chance of passing, and I’d suspect the GOP wouldn’t mind keeping that issue in play through 2006…

I was utterly unpersuaded that President Bush really cared about this. I was persuaded that he was interested in making Democrats talk and vote. The GOP seems to want to show that there really is a difference between themselves and the Democrats. I can see it now…”The Republican Party: Not just another bunch of corrupt scoundrels.”
