When Civil Liberties Go To Far

John Gilmore, a noted technology advocate and civil libertarian is suing John Ashcroft over a federal requirement for ID to be presented to travel by plane. This is an example of civil libertarians harming their own cause. Merely requiring that travellers present a form of identification before stepping on a plane is hardly an onerous federal burden. It is something that is clearly required as a basic anti-terrorist measure.

For those people who are so concerned over their own civil liberties that they cannot flash their drivers license to fly, I suggest they start driving, where there’s no such restrictions.
