Steven Den Beste has a concise takedown of Thomas Friedman’s criticisms of the Bush Doctrine. This is why we’re not putting pressure on the Saudis quite yet. We have to be pragmatic. We can deal with Iraq now, but opening a war on two or more fronts would be idiocy.
The Saudis are going to get theirs, but the best way to do that is to isolate their source of power: oil. With a free Iraq and more oil trade between the West and Russia, the Saudis will quickly become an irrelevancy, and the oil money that flows from the Saudis to terrorism will quickly dry up. Waiting on Iraq only strengthens the Saudi hand.
