Charlton Heston just gave a very moving videotaped speech announcing that he has been diagnosed with Alzeheimers Disease. He is planning to continue to work as long as he can, and he is continuing with at least one film that’s in production now. He will also fill out his term as president of the National Rifle Association until next April.
I’ve always thought that Heston was a pretty damn good actor, and a truly brave individual. He was fighting for the civil rights movement long before it was popular, and his work to preserve and protect the Second Amendment in the face of great criticism only proves his personal conviction and bravery. There is little doubt that he will face Alzheimers with the same bravery that he has faced these other challenges.
