Time is reporting that Colin Powell will step down at the end of Bush’s first term.
Powell has not done anything to make the State Department bureaucracy adapt to the world situation. State Department officials defended the terrible Visa Express program for Saudi Arabia, have not cracked down on Arab terrorism, and have continually placed foreign obstructionism over US interests. The State Department is not a diplomatic branch of the EU, it is a agency for American policy. A Secretary of State who realizes this will help advance American interests far better than Secretary Powell has.
