South Park Republicans

Tech Central Station has an interesting article on
"South Park Republicans" – Republicans who don’t conform to the Christian Right on many social issues but are fiscally conservative and socially libertarian.

This article does make a good point – the nation as a whole is a lot more conservative than the current Democratic Party, but many are turned off by the politics of the moral majority Right. The Republicans need to ditch the more radical factions and embrace a more libertarian social policy to find electoral success. With President Bush’s "compassionate conservatism" message being a major electoral success and the declining influence of the Christian Right, this seems to be exactly where the GOP is heading…
